Long Island Ferry (Part I)

I am finished with the semester and my Masters program in general, and was left with an entire week before graduation with nothing to do. I decided to knock one more thing off of my CT bucket list: take the ferry across the Long Island Sound.

 The majority of the week promised to be rainy and miserable, so I opted to go on Monday when it was a lovely 67 degrees with tons of sunshine. First I wanted to take the 10:30 am ferry (that wasn't happening as I rarely get anywhere on time). Then I was aiming for the ferry at noon... that was also a failure since I had one errand to run before my adventure and I didn't leave to go until 11:30. Finally, I decided to get the 1:30 pm ferry, or I wasn't going to go at all.

I caught it and although I was a little wary of going by myself, there was really no one else to go with and I figured I would/could enjoy the experience alone. Once we left the Connecticut port, it was beautiful. The sun was shining, and everything was a beautiful shade of blue. I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the 'sea breeze'. It was a lovely, soothing trip. 

I am convinced water is my favorite element, because I really enjoy being surrounded by it. I snapped tons of photos as if I have never seen water before (as usual), and after a 1 hour, 15 minute ferry ride, we had arrived at Port Jefferson Long Island, NY.

It's A Shore Thing

Good things come from Daily Deal websites. The primary perk was getting a really affordable deal on a visit to the chiropractor, which was well needed. The secondary perk? Discovering this....

To my surprise, the chiropractor was literally across the street from the Connecticut shoreline in West Haven. It was mainly a residential area, but drive a little bit further and you would stumble upon a nice little parking pad and free access to the beach (at least what I believed to be free). Drive further even, and you will discover a mini boardwalk and tree lined beach looking out onto the Long Island Sound. 

I snapped so many photos, my poor little camera died. I'm glad I take it with me just about anywhere I go these days. I would be so unhappy if I missed the chance to capture this. I can now cross #3 off of this list.

"Beat Yale!"

I was able to cross another thing off of my CT Bucket list this past weekend. I attended a school sporting event: the sold out QU vs Yale hockey game. When I stated that I wanted to "attend a QU athletic game", this was the game I had in mind! There was such a hype around it last year that I just had to see what it was about. Granted, I'm not a hockey fan in the least bit, but I really enjoyed myself. The student section had super energized fans and they just made it really fun. Here are some pics from the event:

 

 

 After 5 minutes of overtime, the game ended in a tie.

The CT Bucket List

The graduation equation: 1 comp exam + 2 classes - 5 months = GRADUATION

That's right! In 5 months, I will be a Master of Health Sciences. "Exciting" is not sufficient enough to describe this impending milestone.

Since my time in Connecticut will be over in no time, I have developed a list of all the things I would like to do before graduation and moving back to Philly. 

The list:

1. Take a ferry across the Long Island Sound
2. Visit a lighthouse
3. Visit a beach
4. Eat at a few (at least 3) restaurants in New Haven/Hartford
5. Visit Mystic, CT... go to the aquarium or go on a boat ride
6. Visit Lyman Orchards
7. Meet up with at least one of my three aunts who live in Connecticut/Massachusetts
8. Attend a QU athletic game
9. Participate in an event hosted by these people

Although this list is not extensive, it does run the gamut of all the things I imagined myself doing as I learned what the state has to offer. CT is such a beautiful state, full of grandeur, bursting with hills, gorgeous landscape, and over all a lot of places to see. I truly hope to complete this list and record it in life's book of memories.
