The Weekend: Thriftin'

SAM_7876

Beau and I decided to skip the people-packed events downtown for a quiet, easy going Saturday at a thrift store in our neighboring township.

// this is really random, but I were to have a baby boy, that sailboat would have had to come home with us. Also, how cool is that butter churner??

This was my second time ever going to a thrift shop, and I have to say that I enjoyed it more this time around -- having a new home and all. We haven't begun decorating our home yet, so our place is still an open canvas. One major item that I had my eye out for is a large mirror for our living room. I spotted a beautiful, rustic one as soon as we entered the store, but there was a lady guarding it terribly once I pointed it out to beau. [enter my sad face here]

What also made this thrift shop trip more enjoyable was having an idea of what I was looking for clothes-wise. My closets are full of clothes, so beau would actually cosign that I don't need anymore, but I have been wanting to change up my wardrobe for a while now. I am was the kind of person to purchase something because it fit and was on sale. As I now struggle to find something to wear every time I go to get myself ready, I become absolutely annoyed with the clothes in my wardrobe-- many of which still have price tags on them. -- I will post more about my personal styling woes later. Going to the clothing section of the thrift store, I knew that I wanted simple dresses and simple skirts (My favorite things to wear). I ended up finding two dresses that I absolutely adored. That yellow dress complements my dark skin very well and with the removal of the shoulder pads, the addition of a knee length slip, maybe a little hemming and some killer heels, this dress will be my new favorite thing to wear to church once it warms up. I also picked up a basic black midi dress.

//really, really excited about these finds

Beau also found something he liked (one I was secretly hoping wouldn't make it into our house ...we all have those moments). He picked up a wooden shelf to store his tens and thousands of cassette tapes and maybe some other audio-visual things. He's a 'music-head', so he has a ton of music.  I have yet to see the potential in this thing, but he's so excited about it, and it's now sitting in our tiny closet/library (aka 3rd bedroom), so I might as well get used to it.

Strong Arms, Sexy Back

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I have a minor (lies!... more like major) obsession with dresses. My favorite these days include one shouldered and open back dresses. One shouldered dresses show off the perfect amount of skin, a strong shoulder and a sleek neckline. But, if you want to show a little more.. you can go for an open back look. I absolutely adore the open-back dresses and you can read why here. Here are a few of my current faves:

Found!

---An Architectural Dress.... worn by January Jones at the Emmys (2009)!

30 Day Blog Challenge-- Day 9

Day 9 – A photo of the item you last purchased.

1) Knit Cutout Back Flare Dress (Navy)

-- I love fun little dresses like this. The kind that look ridiculously plain in the front, but if you turn around... SURPRISE! It's like a birthday party on your body. :-)

2) Black and grey houndstooth dress

I'm obsessed with dresses. One day, my entire wardrobe will be dresses and dresses only. (Especially if I continue gaining weight like I have been doing recently). *sigh... it's terrible*.

Dresses! Dresses! Dresses!

It's that time of the year again. Spring has ended unofficially and it's hot and humid outside. You know what that means? It's dress season! Well, it's always dress season.

Dresses can be paired with thick leggings in the Winter months for a classy and warm look. They also come in different textures, such as sweater materials, to help us ladies maintain warmth. I also think that winter white is an added bonus. ;-)

In the Spring, there are fun styles, colors, patterns and lengths than can be worn, paired with a lovely cardigan and accented with cute wedges or peep-toe flats.

Summer is THE best! There are dresses of all lengths (especially short) and even more fun and bright colors. These dresses can be paired with cute sandals or breathable flats and are an easy outfit for any day/occasion/circumstance.

In the Fall, the color palette changes again to warmer colors like burnt oranges, darker greens, browns, bronzes, etc and they can be paired with boots; A cute pair of cowboy boots or just a pair of ankle boots could work also.

I love dresses so much that I'm thinking of starting a collection. Not a collection where I'll go out of my way to travel the world to find a particular dress (although that would be more than awesome) but I plan on collecting dresses to mix and match with other pieces throughout the years. Hey, I might even get some memories attached to these dresses. ツ
